Kyle Chea - President & Founder
Born and raised in Nassau, Bahamas, Kyle learned to row at Vassar College, where he graduated as Men's Rowing Captain in 2010. He was named the All-Bahamas Merit Scholar in 2006, and a Sir John Templeton Memorial Scholar in 2017 for his MBA studies at Duke University – The Fuqua School of Business. He has held membership with the University of Bristol Boat Club (Bristol, United Kingdom), the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (Hong Kong SAR), Club Canottieri Lugano (Lugano, Switzerland), and Duke University Men's Rowing (Durham, North Carolina). He was a founding member of the Nassau Rowing Club; President from its inception in 2012 to 2016, and from 2019 to present.

Kathryn de Souza - Vice President
Dr. de Souza is a physician specializing in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, as well as Sports Medicine. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Middlebury College, and her medical degree from New York Medical College. Dr. de Souza completed her residency training at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, where she was chief resident. Dr. de Souza works in private practice at the Sports, Spine and Rehabilitation Centre, and is the Clinical Director of the Rehabilitation Department at Doctors Hospital. She resides in the Bahamas with her husband Pablo, an Anesthesiologist, and her three children. She is an avid runner and rower, having completed 11 marathons and began rowing 3 years ago. She learned how to row through the Nassau Rowing Club Learn to Row program. Dr. de Souza also serves on the Boards of the Bahamas Humane Society and IDEA Relief.Description goes here

Cynthia Van Wynen - Treasurer
Cynthia moved to the Bahamas with her family in 1979, but did not return home to live full-time until 1998. She attended Pine Crest Preparatory School in Florida and Wesleyan University in Connecticut. After graduation, she moved to live and work in China for three years where she met her husband. For the next ten years, she spent her time between London and China, working with a China consultancy company. Since returning to The Bahamas, she took time off to be a full-time mother and then joined Balducinno Fine Foods as a Manager. She proudly served for many years on the committee of the Nassau Music Society of which she is now Executive Director. Two years ago, Cynthia achieved a 30-year dream: to learn to row!

Michelle Stanhope - Executive Secretary
Michelle Stanhope’s kids have always been involved in various competitive sports and she has witnessed firsthand the tremendous athletic abilities that the youth of the Bahamas possess. Through sons William and Ethan, she realized the positive impact it has on all persons involved on and off the water. She believes rowing is a new avenue leading to endless scholastic and competitive athletic opportunities for all Bahamians to pursue. Lake Cunningham is not only beautiful, but also the perfect venue for rowing in the Bahamas. She is committed to working with Nassau Rowing Club to ensure that more people are made aware of rowing in the Bahamas both locally and internationally and trying to make participation available to as many people as possible in the future. Michelle also sits on the Board of Directors for the Camperdown Equestrian Center.

Emily Morley - Director at Large
Born and raised in The Bahamas, Emily learned how to row at The Emma Willard School in Troy, NY when she was 15. She was an NCAA Division III student-athlete and two-time Women’s Rowing Captain at Ithaca College. During her senior year she qualified for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics where she placed 30th in the Women’s Single Sculls, making history as the first Bahamian rower to ever compete in an Olympic Regatta. She was President of the Nassau Rowing Club from 2016 to 2019.

Viviane Proffitt
Viviane Proffitt has been supporting the Nassau Rowing Club since her daughters started rowing in 2016. As a teacher, she has also led her school's rowing elective in conjunction with NRC. Viviane has been an active supporter of all of our events, including local regattas, team trips to international regattas, social events and fundraisers. She is looking forward to finding innovative ways to organize fundraising and social events during this pandemic, and supporting the logistics of NRC's local regattas and social/fundraising events as soon as we are able to return to normality. She is keen to support NRC's mission to make rowing available to as many people in the Bahamas as possible, and is also excited to explore opportunities related to sports tourism.
